Bipolar disorder - Management
Audit criteria
- An annual review of the physical health of people with bipolar disorder has been carried out to ensure that over the course of a year the following have been assessed:
- Lipid levels in people older than 40 years of age, even where there is no other indication of risk
- Plasma glucose levels
- Weight
- Smoking status and alcohol use
- Blood pressure
- Valproate has not been routinely prescribed for women of child-bearing potential with bipolar disorder
- If it has been prescribed, ensure adequate contraception has been prescribed and the risks to the health of the unborn child have been explained
