Blepharitis - Management
Staphylococcal infection: topical antibiotics
Age from 10 years onwards
Preferred treatment: chloramphenicol 1% eye ointment
Chloramphenicol 1% eye ointment
Apply a small amount on the eyelid margins after cleaning and at night before sleep.
Supply 8 grams.
Alternative treatment: fusidic acid 1% eye drops
Fusidic acid 1% modified-release eye drops
Apply to the eyelid margins after cleaning and at night before sleep.
Supply 10 grams.
Ointment unsuitable: chloramphenicol 0.5% eye drops
Chloramphenicol 0.5% eye drops
Apply to the eyelid margins after cleaning and at night before sleep.
Supply 20 ml.
Contact lenses: chloramphenicol 0.5% eye drops (preservative free)
Chloramphenicol 0.5% eye drops 0.5ml unit dose preservative free
Apply to the eyelid margins after cleaning and at night before sleep.
Supply 80 single doses.
