Breast cancer - managing family history - Evidence
Supporting evidence

  • The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) commissioned the National Collaborating Centre for Primary Care to develop their guideline on familial breast cancer. The Collaborating Centre established a guideline development group who reviewed the evidence and developed the recommendations. An independent Guideline Review Panel then oversaw the development of the guideline.
    • The evidence is summarized in the document Familial breast cancer: the classification and care of women ar risk of familial breast cancer in primary, secondary and tertiary care [McIntosh et al, 2004].
    • An update of the evidence regarding the use of magnetic resonance imaging is contained in the document Familial breast cancer: the classification and care of women ar risk of familial breast cancer in primary, secondary and tertiary care: update [National Collaborating Centre for Primary Care, 2006].
  • CKS has provided a very short summary of this evidence in the relevant basis for recommendations sections. The following evidence sections contain short summaries of key papers including two papers published since the Collaborating Centre published their review.
