CKS is no longer commissioned by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). NICE remains committed to providing a replacement service for CKS and is currently reviewing its options. In the meantime, although CKS content is now not being maintained, it still remains relevant and will continue to be made available. CKS content was generated under a programme of topic creation and update. Conjunctivitis - allergic - How up-to-date is this topic?
Changes
Version 1.1, revision planned in 2011.
Last revised in November 2007
January 2009 — minor update. Otrivin-Antistin® eye drops are no longer recommended for use in children under 12 years of age; text and prescriptions updated. Issued in February 2009.
August to November 2007 — converted from PRODIGY guidance to CKS topic structure. The evidence-base has been reviewed in detail, and recommendations are more clearly justified and transparently linked to the supporting evidence.
There have been no major changes to the existing recommendations but a new recommendation has been added to consider a 3–5 day course of an oral corticosteroid when symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergic conjunctivitis are severe, and there is no doubt about the diagnosis.
