July 2010 — minor update. Text amended to include findings from the Health Technology Assessment 2010 The safety and effectiveness of different methods of earwax removal: a systematic review and economic evaluation [Clegg et al, 2010]. Issued in August 2010.
December 2009 — minor update to clarify that sodium chloride 0.9% is not available as a proprietary ear drop product. However, sodium chloride 0.9% nasal drops can be prescribed for use in the ear (off-label use). Issued in December 2009.
May to August 2007 — converted from PRODIGY guidance to CKS topic structure. The evidence-base has been reviewed in detail, and recommendations are more clearly justified and transparently linked to the supporting evidence.
There are no major changes to the recommendations.
