  • Scenario: Gingivitis and periodontitis: covers the management of clinically apparent plaque-associated gingivitis, with or without periodontitis. There is gum discomfort, reddening and swelling of the gum margins, and bleeding when teeth are cleaned or probed. There may also be halitosis, foul taste, pus expressible from gingival pockets, and loose teeth.
  • Scenario: Acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis: covers the management of gingivitis where the gums are acutely painful and swollen; they bleed easily and have ulcers covered with grey material (dead tissue that is sloughing off). There is also halitosis and a bad taste in the mouth.
