Hepatitis A - Management
View full scenario no prescriptions
How do I manage someone who has been in contact with a person with hepatitis A?
- Contact the local Health Protection Unit who will advise on further management. This may include administration of hepatitis A vaccine, and sometimes human normal immunoglobulin, depending on the individual circumstance.
- For further information on the management of contacts of hepatitis A see Guidance for the prevention and control of hepatitis A infection, published by the Health Protection Agency, and available to download from www.hpa.org.uk (pdf).
Basis for recommendation
Management of people who have been in contact with someone with hepatitis A is best discussed with the local Health Protection Unit, as each situation requires individual assessment and may have public health implications [HPA, 2009a].
