Herpes simplex - genital - Evidence
Evidence on self-care measures for genital herpes
CKS identified no controlled trials supporting the use of self-care measures in the management of genital herpes. Self-care measures are pragmatic recommendations given by guidelines groups [BASHH, 2007; New Zealand Herpes Foundation, 2007] and experts in narrative reviews [Sen and Barton, 2007] based on physiological (beneficial) mechanisms and clinical experience, rather than trial evidence.
