CKS is no longer commissioned by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). NICE remains committed to providing a replacement service for CKS and is currently reviewing its options. In the meantime, although CKS content is now not being maintained, it still remains relevant and will continue to be made available. CKS content was generated under a programme of topic creation and update. Herpes simplex - genital - How up-to-date is this topic?
Changes
Version 1.3, revision planned in 2012.
Last revised in September 2008
September 2010 — minor update. The figures for new diagnoses of genital herpes in 2008/9 have been added [HPA, 2010]. Issued in September 2010.
April to June 2010 — updated to include advice regarding the management of genital herpes in people with HIV. Issued in June 2010.
August 2009 — minor update. Advice from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guideline on when to suspect child maltreatment has been added to this topic [NICE, 2009]. The advice to avoid sharing towels and flannels with others has been clarified to explain that although it is very unlikely that the herpes virus would survive on an object long enough to be passed on, it is sensible to take steps to prevent this. Issued in August 2009.
June to September 2008 — converted from PRODIGY guidance to CKS topic structure. The evidence-base has been reviewed in detail, and recommendations are more clearly justified and transparently linked to the supporting evidence.
