What are the adverse effects of Japanese encephalitis vaccine?
Green Cross® vaccine
- Japanese encephalitis vaccine is associated with a moderate frequency of local and mild systemic adverse effects. They occur in 10–20% of recipients.
- Serious systemic reactions (urticaria, angio-oedema, and cardiovascular collapse), occur in about 0.6% of vaccine recipients. Most systemic reactions occur within the first few minutes of vaccination, but may occur up to 2 weeks after vaccination.
- Rare neurological events including encephalitis have also been reported (1–2.3 cases per million recipients).

IXIARO® vaccine
- Adverse effects are common (reported in up to 40% of participants in clinical trials) but are usually mild and disappear within a few days.
- Headache (20%) and myalgia (13%) were most commonly reported.
