What types of tick-borne encephalitis vaccines are available?

  • Only one vaccine for tick-borne encephalitis is available in the UK. This is an inactivated vaccine:
    • Ticovac®
    • Ticovac Junior®
Basis for recommendation
  • These recommendations are based on information from the published literature [DH, 2006c].
  • Tick-borne encephalitis vaccine has been shown to be effective against the European subtype, and is probably effective against the more aggressive Far Eastern subtype.
