When is hepatitis A vaccine contraindicated?
- Do not give hepatitis A vaccine if the person:
- Has a current severe febrile illness.
- Has had a confirmed anaphylactic reaction to a previous dose of hepatitis A vaccine.
- Has had a confirmed anaphylactic reaction to any component of hepatitis A vaccine:
- Epaxal® should not be given to those who have had a confirmed anaphylactic hypersensitivity to egg products.
- Avaxim® (contains hepatitis A), Hepatyrix® or ViATIM® (contains typhoid and hepatitis A), and Twinrix® (contains hepatitis A and B) should not be given if there is a confirmed anaphylactic reaction to neomycin.
- Twinrix® should not be given if there has been a confirmed reaction to thiomersal.
