CKS found no clinical trials to support the recommendations, which are largely based on expert opinion in guidelines on referral for suspected cancer from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence [NICE, 2005b]. Expert opinion from narrative reviews, which are cited in the Basis for recommendation sections, has also contributed to this CKS topic.
