Neck lump - Management
How should I manage a parotid or submandibular gland mass?

  • If there is a parotid or submandibular gland swelling that is unexplained, refer urgently.
    • Malignancy in the parotid gland can present with noticeable enlargement of the parotid with pain, skin tethering, paraesthesia, and facial nerve involvement.
  • If a salivary gland calculus is suspected (for example recurrent swelling of the parotid or submandibular glands, with no features of malignancy, which resolves within a few hours to a few days), refer to secondary care.
