November 2010 — minor update. Advice from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) that there is insufficient evidence to confirm a link between long-term use of oral bisphosphonates and oesophageal cancer has been added [MHRA, 2010]. Issued in November 2010.

October 2009 — minor update. Additional advice from the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) regarding osteonecrosis of the jaw associated with bisphosphonate treatment has been added [EMEA, 2009]. Issued in October 2009.

August 2009 — minor update. Prescriptions and prescribing information for bisphosphonates, and prescriptions for preparations containing calcium and vitamin D, are now included. Issued in August 2009.

December 2008 to June 2009 — this is a new CKS topic, based on the Royal College of Physicians guideline Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis [RCP, 2002].
