This CKS topic is based on the Royal College of Physicians guideline Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis [RCP, 2002], and will be updated with the publication of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guideline Osteoporosis assessment of fracture risk and the prevention of osteoporotic fractures in individuals at high risk, and The use of drugs for the prevention of osteoporotic fragility fractures in women who are on long term systemic corticosteroids treatment.

This CKS topic covers the assessment and management of people taking corticosteroids who have osteoporosis, or who are at risk of osteoporosis.

This CKS topic does not cover the management of people at risk of osteoporosis who are not taking corticosteroids, or the management of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis who are not taking corticosteroids.
