Prostatitis - acute - Background information
What is it?

  • Acute bacterial prostatitis is a potentially serious bacterial infection of the prostate [Naber et al, 2001].
  • Acute bacterial prostatitis is accompanied by infection of the urinary tract. Occasionally, there may also be associated epididymitis or urethritis. Acute prostatitis is not considered a sexually transmitted infection, so partners are not at risk [BASHH, 2008].
