Sore throat - acute - Making a diagnosis
Diphtheria
- Diphtheria starts gradually and the sore throat is not marked [Bisno, 2005].
- There is a characteristic tonsillar or pharyngeal membrane (that varies in colour from light to dark grey) which is firmly adherent to the tonsil and pharyngeal mucosa: attempts to dislodge it cause bleeding [Bisno, 2005].
